    Monterey / California 2018

Monterey, one of the most beautiful coastal cities in California. We visit the former capital with its beautiful bays and the famous Canary Row.

Monterey - The pearl on California Highway No 1

Close to San Francisco and a day trip from Los Angeles, Monterey California is located in a beautiful bay that bears the city's name - Monterey.

In this little post we tell you why this city in particular is a dream city for us to live in.

    The famous Cannary Row

On this road trip, we started right on the famous Cannary Row. The tourist district takes its name from the many sardine oil factories that were built and operated here between 1895 and 1950.

In addition to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, you will find a lot of restaurants and small shops here, most of which sell all kinds of West Coast souvenirs. Even so, this is one of our favorite spots in town.

After we actually only drove through it in 2014, we wanted to take a closer look at the place.

Even if it is more touristy here, similar to the Old Fishermans Wharf, we definitely recommend a visit. Cannary Row is full of little hidden shops and attractions.

Why Monterey is our dream city to live in

Anyone who has traveled California Highway No 1 will agree that Monterey is a small town to visit on your coastal road trip.

But why, you may ask yourself. We would like to show you the short answer to this with a few photos. Here you not only see beautiful houses, but also the beauty of nature.

    Our absolute favorite place

Some like Old Fisherman's Wharf, others Lovers Point, our favorite place is “Berwick Park”. This small park is a hidden oasis between the hustle and bustle on “Cannary Row” and the tourist magnet “Lovers Point”.

Berwick Park is located on the north end of Monterey, the transition to Pacific Grove, right on Ocen view Blvd.

The small park is open all day and is a real feast for the eyes and ears at any time of the day. If you are lucky, you will even come across an American legend, the famous bald eagle.

    Insider tip

Our absolute tip for a visit to Monterey and at the same time our absolute favorite place.

Go down to the small bay under the burrow on the right. Quiet is guaranteed here, because it is hardly visited here in contrast to Lovers Point a few meters further.
